Cocktails for forgiveness

to save me from hell

Celebrated at Christmas

diuretic damsel

*

A slug on the sidewalk

too slow to cut through the lulls

bodies outlined in chalk

as echoes traipse down the hall

*

Mysterious nonsense

words just get in the way

My counterresponse

to the things that you say

*

Can't be too serious

I'm programed to play

Some think I'm delirious

time seems to fritter away

*

But I've finally stopped quibbling

what they think, caps a landfill

It's selective listening

some would call it a skill

*

I just don't have the time

for all of life's petty crap

There was a place and a time

but we're so far past that

*

So, I settle for nicotine

though I dislike the taste

But an occasional drink

just to keep myself sane

*

Another day in paradise

where you don't need a name

Cause everyone rolls the dice

and gambles, life's game

slam poetry
