Here's a day in the life of me.

I'm red when the sun wakes me up,

the sleepiness rubbed from my eyes,

and my nighttime escapes are lost things,

gone to waking hours and the smell of coffee.

*

I'm orange when I turn on the hot water

and bask in memories I'd rather forget

until I dry off and shrug on my clothes,

ready to start another day on refresh mode.

*

I'm yellow when I greet my cats,

their mellowness soothing my aches

and all the mental strain of days before

because love is so much greater than fear.

*

I'm green when the day takes me under,

as I filter through all the odds and ends

of another day in a life well-lived,

words leading the way all the time.

*

I'm blue when the words fail me,

just when I thought I was getting somewhere,

but it's a reminder that we steer only so far

in this rumble-tumble game we call living.

*

I'm indigo when the skies tint to night,

my eyes and mind ready to relax,

and I start to drift in my thoughts,

my day beginning to wind to a close.

*

I'm violet when sleep brings dreams,

and my life runs this full-circle tilt

that tells me I'm ordinary, it's true,

but with gaps left for the extraordinary.
