Self Love is Courageous

What I Looked For. What I Got.

By The Shattered PoetPublished about a year ago Updated about a year ago 1 min read

Your love was brittle like baked bones.

Frustrating like lost keys, stuck at home.

Stinging like fresh wounds in crisp air.

Fickle like teens’ minds, truth or dare?

*

Your love.

*

Exhausting, absent catalytic converter.

Toxic, apparent environmental murder.

Vicious, like hungry lion on meat.

Predatory, like when your eyes pounced me.

*

Your love.

*

Predictable, like when fire meets paper.

Earned… are you the fruit of my labor?

Imbalanced, relationship teeters on the edge.

Drained, after you with no nest egg.

*

Self Love.

*

Courageous, lifting me from the pit.

Remedial, I was on fire. It spit.

Reflective, broke me thought true love, you.

Perspective, NOTICE: Our split, past due.

*

Self Love.

*

Redemptive, leaves sprout from hole.

Nourishing, wor wonton soup for my soul.

Curious, board boat and ride waves.

Restorative, restful night and peaceful day.

*

Self-love is painful, growing still hurts.

Foundational, it must come first.

Responsible, healthy is what it wants.

Evolution, self-love is never “done”.

*

Self Love.
