Identity
8 letters used
to judge you and me.
Whether it be for personality
looks
or sexual orientation.
It’s used as a hook
the bait
a simple temptation.
Like an enticing title
the hardcover splattered with color.
One powerful weapon
to describe one another.
“I identify as this!”
but they see you as that.
Knocking out your joyfulness.
The tool a heavily worded bat.
Not everyone’s evil,
the ones who care will support you.
Tightening those screws
knocked loose from the culprit.
Like a cheerful crowd
the words give encouragement.
Incentive to fight back.
The moral of this poem?
Incessant need of rhymes?
Embrace your identity.
Withstand the tough times.
You are who you are.
Nobody can can change that.
So dodge the strikes
and break their bat.
About the Creator
Max McDaniel
I’m pretty new to writing Poetry and Creative Writing in general. I was pretty nervous about publishing anything but due to the support from Friends and Family I’ve decided to put myself out there and hopefully make someone’s day.
