Self-Actualization

Path to Identity

We don’t have to be like trained sheep trying to assimilate,

Acting how others want us to with behaviors we fabricate.

In life it best to steer away from identity diffusion,

Unless we wish to live a life full of confusion.

If we surround ourselves with people we love,

Self-actualization’s road can be a treasure trove.

In the end we want to be remembered for whom we are,

Whether or not society does care.

Pretending to be something we are not is cause for concern,

Especially if life takes an unexpected turn.

Trying for others’ acceptance can cause identity delay,

So just be yourself, as goes the cliché.

In the end we have to like whom we become,

And always remember where we came from.
