Selective Mute (part 2)

This is a poem about a little girl who's selective mute

I pinned so many hopes in you, dear,

of you rising higher than your wings.

Of starting courage up with fear,

and patching your pores till trauma sings.

-

I placed every tear I cried

in a syringe of pure love.

how hard I prayed and tried

to help you soar above.

-

To unlock your blood-sealed tongue

and give value to your words.

And lift you so you can fly among

the golden, joy-filled birds.

-

But here we are, only feeling goodbyes

and you haven't uttered a single sound.

I'm only told what's said by eyes,

your lips are sealed, bound.

-

I so hoped you'd speak;

what a simple task to do.

But week after hopeful week

your mouth was glazed as new.

-

I give you my last bear hug

with dreams untold and broken.

I've sifted, plied and dug

but still... you have not spoken.
