Searching For The Moon

( A homecoming poem )

That one sweet star up there

between the randomly lit apartments

I saw it

and swooned

I saw it and thought

finally I’m alive again

*

The moon ( as brave as it's

ever been

*

Behind the golden veil )

*

Shone in every direction

Reflected in the windows

of any building that I looked at

*

O bring me into

the arms of this moment

O bring me

*

Lift me

Make me to feel like

I have wings

Wings made of this moonlight

Wings made of all positions

Wings made of memories

of something beyond memory

*

The memories I

could never have remembered

*

This is a life I

do not understand --

And I am tired --

Carry me to the life

that I come from

*

Lit bright

Starlike

Everything within me

*

( O movement of this sudden moment )

*

Lovers' touches, so brief & so

fleeting

Come back to me:

*

I was loved

I was free

I was alive once

upon a time

upon a beautiful, beautiful

time

*

Thank you to them

And thank You most to You

O You who be in everything

Omni-this and

Omni-that

Omni-everything-that-could-

ever-be

*

Show me

Bring me to another tree

Where I can daydream reverently

Make my whole body a

dowsing wand

and make my whole vision

a power of powers

*

Show me where You are

today

*

( For sometimes I

cannot find You

Sometimes I cannot

see You )

*

My eyes hurt from

the pressure of looking

in any direction

*

But the doorway goes with me

The gateway goes

wherever I go

*

Remind me

O sweet taker of all

my ridiculous

and un-miraculous

ideas

*

Destroy my mind

Destroy it with the

fist of Hope

that is only a weapon

when all other weapons have

destroyed themselves

*

Bring me back to

the garden

whose vines are my veins

whose fragrance is my fearing

whose wonder is my wanting

whose span is my skin

whose home is my heart

in the soil of my searching

where everything grows

and takes me up

as it goes up

*

Grab my arm

on your way to Heaven
