Seams of the Soul
Finding Connection in a Disconnected World
Staring down on civilization,
I came to my realization:
I climbed and climbed and all for nought.
I climbed and climbed like a robot.

Chasing the dreams of corporations,
Filling myself with infatuations.
I want that car, and I want that house.
I want two kids and a lovely spouse.

But what is that? And what is here?
I wanted love... but grabbed a beer?!

It's true, it's true, I was deceived,
I fell in love with lust conceived
From the minds of advertisers
Building my dreams from ivory towers.
—————
In that moment, I dropped the beer,
Said to my spouse "Come closer, dear,"
I want to know your dreams and goals
And not just what your beauty shows.
—————
I know there must be more to love
Please tell me what you're thinking of.
Share with me your wildest dreams
And let me help you sew the seams

And sew it all with you together
So we can be in love forever.
Did you want this house, or even this car?
Or did you want to fly afar,
Travel the world to distant lands,
Climb on mountains and touch the sands?
—————
Sew now. I'm sorry, I apologize.
Only now do I realize,
It's not about what I make or do,
But time together loving you.

Do you understand haiku?
Do you ever get sidetracked when writing? I do. I think it must be in the nature of the creative mind to draw connections and have a need to explore them. Since the World Wide Web became established in the 1990s, this has become a lot easier to do. The phenomenon being described as ‘going down a wormhole.’ Sometimes a distraction, but I have written some of my best work when I have disappeared down one web wormhole or another. It also happened in the days when most of my research was book based so we can't blame it on the internet. Book research was just slower. These days, guided by my AI friend, it is much, much quicker.
