Sandpiper

Bird v. Ocean

By Faith CampbellPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

While feeling the tingle of the salt water,

While sifting through the dry, colorful carcasses of the sea,

My eyes alighted upon a sandpiper,

Endlessly scurrying towards the wet sand to peck it vigorously;

Endlessly fleeing from the oncoming waves.

My decisions have reflected the patterns of the small bird.

The risks I take always send me running away again,

And all I gain are the few grains of experience among the sands of lost time.

Endlessly I run, a dream in one hand and a plan in the other;

Endlessly I run away, before the wave can pull me in deeper.
