Salvation Or Not

By J.R. Morton

By Jason Ray Morton Published 4 years ago 1 min read

The road of good intentions lead us to this awful place,

and the ones that could have saved us failed,

they all made plans to save face.

To this one need, the one that shouldn't have paled,

we apologize dear friend,

our ship it has sailed.

Of all the missions in all of the land,

when this Humpty dumpty fell,

nobody was putting her back together again.

We were guilty of forsaking the trees

and guiltier yet of ignoring our own needs.

Now we search for them as far as the eye sees.

Looking for that source of our salvation seeds,

we regret our mistakes you can definitely bet,

as space wasn't available for all, not yet.

They ran for the heavens, deep into the stars,

hoping that humanity would be better,

leaving us to curb our misery as we couldn't get far.

Trusted them you did, my unfortunate friends

because it is our fault that we are meeting our ends.

Your faith in the wrong devil,

you did mistakenly place.

No devil that you know,

was going to save the human race.

There was a one-word answer, that could have saved our seas,

the one thing we destroyed the most of, our salvation was the

trees.

Writing has become more important as I live with cancer. It's a therapy, it's an escape, and it's a way to do something lasting that hopefully leaves an impression.
