For real poetics acrostic anniversary challenge

By Natasha CollazoPublished 2 years ago Updated 2 years ago 1 min read

A year it’s been.

Never even noticed it until, well,

now.

Irreversible trauma I’ve unraveled into ink and sometimes acrylic paint; the expressionist developing inside this hollow

vacuum of space between fiction and reality.

Emerging the Thomas Edison of my depression.

Ripening my sole darkness into light as I age like mature wine after being stomped in the vineyard.

Saturating my well-being with a damp wet towel of doubt, then wringing out the

Artistry. This is how artists are created. Dripping the salt from a twist in the plot.

Real healing only comes at the cost of something that sucks the life out of you.

Your celebration begins then. Now that’s a freakin holiday worth toasting to. Salud!

This poem is amazing! The damp towel metaphor is genius! Also, the opening three lines have so much weight, especially when the word ‘now’ stands alone. So good!

Everything great is born of sweat and pain, most of has bled but still survived, Well said.

  • This was a fascinating way to take this idea! Well written Natasha, going with a lesser-thought concept of an Anniversary!

  • real healing only comes at the cost of something that sucks the life out of you....NO kidding! This covers quite a lot of what it takes to release the creativity inside. Great job

  • The Path of the Artist is, ultimately, a spiritual renaissance for the individual, with all the attendant foibles! Well-wrought! Salud!

Such a lot of process encompassed in such a short verse.

  • "Ripening my sole darkness into light as I age like mature wine after being stomped in the vineyard." "Dripping the salt from a twist in the plot." "Real healing only comes at the cost of something that sucks the life out of you." These are my favourite lines. Also, not me thinking that salud was a fancy name for salad 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Loved your poem!

So many great images in here, Natasha. The wine, the dampening, the paint/art references. There's a lot of content here. I've read it a couple of times, mulling it around like a word sommelier. Salud to you!

The lines...Irreversible trauma I’ve unraveled into ink and sometimes acrylic paint;...is a powerful one... The comparison to Thomas Edison highlights the tenacity and drive required to turn inner darkness into light. The final lines are just brilliant..Your words are a stunning and soulful reflection of the journey of healing from trauma and depression....I loved your poem!😊
