Sad Boy Summer

Scorching heat in the valley this week.

Was only around 50, 60 last month,

shooting up to 90, 100 today.

Putting on red flag warnings across the country.

Sad boy living alone in his apartment.

No air conditioners, only his ceiling fan,

to carry him through the day.

Hopping on his car for an escape, when he can.

But how far can a boy run?

To get away from the heat?

When it can only get much worse.

When the heat isn’t enough.

When people stop believing,

and start denying what’s happening.

How far can a boy run?

To escape the feverish reality he’s in.

And how far can a boy go?

To feel the warmth when winter comes.

When his home will be lost

in a decade or two, or even sooner.

When the coldness of their hearts spread?

And the shortened winter of the poles

will only add to his discontent.

For only the ice melts, and not their frigid soul.

Maybe it’s better if this happens,

So Earth can hit its reset button,

and Mom can kick her disobedient children away.

Just imagine. Earth, free of parasites.
