Running Through Hue

By Amari Singleton

nature of emotions

I am green, as my mud-loving debris coated, mahogany legs dilute the wind

I am red, as my feet contort to the familiar curve of the track,

winding around the green catacombs of my nurturing mind

I am blue, as I stare into its whimsical and sorrowful eyes,

perhaps lilac as its eternal wonder removes my disguise

I am orange, vibrant ,and cunning as the sun

I am grey, when everything is said and done

All in all, I am brown, russet coated, warm and vast

Swimming in the mousy lustful cocoa comfort of my past

Running to never finish last

I am yellow, delicate, simple, soft, and hard to catch

I am purple, a bursting vile swindling patch

I am pink, bubbly, rambunctious, pristine

Working to suppress the other colors by any means

I am white, neither anguish nor delight

I am black, complex, absorbing others into my fight

This is how I felt as I learned and grew

This is how I felt running through hue
