Ruminations and Sadness

Rumination it means dwelling on the same thoughts over and over, often sad or troubling ones. Like when your mind circles around the past and won’t let it rest.

Ruminations and Sadness

Beneath the mantle’s quiet weight,

I sit with thoughts that hesitate,

They circle slow, like moths in flame,

Each whisper pressing back my name.

The earth itself holds buried fire,

A core of endless, deep desire,

Yet I, adrift, must learn the art

Of bearing stone upon the heart.

I stay indoors, curtains drawn tight,

No wish to join the moving light.

Tiredness lingers, faithful and near,

Keeping me bound in this worn chair.

Sadness builds a home inside,

Where memories return and bide,

I wander halls the world can’t see,

Rooms of loss that follow me.

Ruminations carve their track,

A tide that pulls, then drags me back,

The hours blur, the day grows dim,

Silence chanting its old hymn.

Yet deep below, the mantle breathes,

Through shadowed stone, the fire weaves,

And in that weight, some ember glows,

A hidden light the darkness knows
