Years have been diverse in everyway
As a child I found little in common with those around me
My language often confused others
My choice of colorful clothing often brought unkind words
My love for books turned many heads
And most of all my unwillingness to understand the world around me.
I could not or would not acknowledge that my skin so white made me better then someone with different colored skin or eyes that were different from mine were bad.
So life often was a tangled web of words mixed with threads of different colors.
Colors that didn't fit the world I was in.
I was white with blue eyes and long blonde hair.
But my mind saw no problem with different colors forming one strong web.
One that together was not tangled or hard to see that it was a rainbow shaped differently.
So I came up with plan that worked for me.
I found a pair of glasses just laying in a dusty drawer.
I tried them on
They fit perfect, but they need just a little help.
I found a rose colored marker among my things and fixed those old dusty glasses right up
They were prefect when I looked into the mirror!!
I couldn't fix the world I lived in, change my language, get rid of my clothes, give up books, but I could fit how to see the world.
Now when someone cannot see the things I see or do, I hand them my fancy new rose colored glasses with pride
When they see the world through my rose colored glasses they see colors much differently
Their surroundings have a new outlook. No one is white, black, yellow.
The rose colored glasses haven't changed the world, only helped us see it as it should be.
Rose colored glasses make the world blend as one in shades of beauty.
