Ripples on the Lake

Light Breaks Water Challenge

As the sun begins to rise over the lake

I patiently wait from my spot on the dock

For that first burst of light to puncture the surface

It's anticipation in its finest form

Then it happens!

The first beam breaks through

The water shines in an iridescence

Worthy of fairy tale magic

The colors blend: oranges, pinks, purples, and reds

I reach down to feel the sunbeam's warmth

My hand slowly slides through the tinted waves

The ripples I create reverberate through the lake

As the world comes awake beneath my fingers

The seagull swoops down to catch its breakfast

The turtle below the dock slides out of his shell

My fingers brush a floating piece of seaweed

The home of some colorful fish that scatter

The sun continues its rise, and I slowly rise

Ready to feel the sunlight as it hits my face

And I slide gracefully into the lake

Becoming one with the beam as it reaches me
