A Poem

Visiting my past has been nothing but eye opening,

I was born in the wrong place and wrong time.

The overwhelming smell of urine,

the yelling and screaming about being Beyoncé in the train,

and a man showing his bare backside out of pure enjoyment of my horror.

The anxiety comes back

the memories flood in and I’m back where I was before I left this place.

Just breathe

All I think I can do is thank the universe that I have an escape

that my life has moved on from the constant anxiety

and I’m happy with my quiet life.

This was how I knew that letting go and moving on was the right choice.
