Rhythm of a Summer Storm

A poem

Wind picks up as trees dance to the rhythm of a coming storm

leaves and twigs twirl like pirouettes to the ground

thunder softly rumbles in the distance

There's a storm coming

A grey sky closes in and pull a curtain over the sun and blue sky

as the leaves and twigs continue their dance

and the thunder continues to rumble, growing louder

to the rhythm of the coming storm

A mesmerizing show of lightning flashes in the distance cueing the first dance of rain drops

Drip drop drip

the first rain drops join in the dance making their own rhythm to the storm.

Slow and steady at first, then gradually picking up tempo

drip drop drip

More rain drops join in to dance to the rhythm of the storm

The sky opens up to the rushing sound of heavy peltering rain drops falling against branches, leaves, and falling to the ground

The wind, thunder, lightning, and rain continue their dance until they are stopped by the breaking sun

The summer rain storm is over
