Rez Girl
“Rez girl, your roots are medicine, Burn it, drink it, Smooth it over your honey skin.“

Rez Girl
By Deziree E Joe-Shorty
She can give you the world
When she’s only traveled her reservation.
She finds home in every song,
Surviving off her land and preservations.
Fearless to speak her once forbidden language,
To dirty her moccasin.
Stronger than the years of forced colonization.
Silver, silk, and shándíín,
Wrapped in love, designed by those she loves,
Always her and her prayers,
All she needs is gohwééh & tádídíín.
Rez girl, your roots are medicine,
Burn it, drink it,
Smooth it over your honey skin.
Repair, let it in.
shándíín - sunlight
gohwééh - coffee
tádídíín - corn pollen
