Resilience

Poetry

Lift your head

See the jagged rocks above

Take a deep breath

Start the climb again

Take each step with care

Every breath a burden

Pebbles in your pack

Heavier with every stride

The land gives way

Beneath your feet

You slip, you slide

Hold in the screams of blinding pain

So others do not feel the same

Cry silent tears

Hope they do not stain

Sliding rocks jab and scrape

Your fingers reach for an escape

You hit a ledge

Blood flowing crimson

Hold with all your might

Rocks rush passed

Hoping to crush you beneath your weight

You gasp and swing freely

Your fingers ache

You close your eyes

An inch at a time

You start to climb

Your will alone pulling you up

The earth settles above

You sit upon the ledge

The desolate view

stirring your thoughts

How easy it would be

To fall to the depths

How peaceful that darkness

Just one step

Your arms would open wide

Your muscles finally relaxed

How easy it would be

To accept that peace

Yet you stand

You turn around

Lift your head

See the jagged rocks above

Add a pebble to the pack

Hoist it on your back

Take a deep breath

Start the climb again

About the Creator

Stranna Pearsa

A long time ago I discovered the beauty and magic of the written word. The escape it provided when I was trapped was invaluable to me. It is my goal to provide that gift as it had been bestowed upon me so many times by so many others.
