Rescue
An entry for the Moment of Silence Acrostic Challenge
By Rachel DeemingPublished about a year ago • 1 min read
Simon and Garfunkel talk of your darkness, my old friend;
I instead see light, rescuing me, like a hero's cape, swooping in,
Laid over chairs to make a den, into which I can crawl,
Extending to carve a space that muffles, where
Nothing is King and Foolish noise is relegated to
Corners where it waits, crouched, ready to
Extinguish the bright flickers of ideas as they rise.

This is my favourite I think. I like the reference to Simon & Garfunkel (it was on my mind too), and “Extinguish the bright flickers of ideas as they rise.” feels like a reminder that noise and words can sometimes spoil good thoughts.
Love a good fortress of solitude! Great acrostic!
This was such a unique spin on the prompt given - and so poignant. I love your acrostic poem.
So well written and impactful Rachel!
I'm left speechless! Beautiful, Rachel!!
Oh this was absolutely wonderful! Loved your Acrostic!
Oh, blessed silence! If someone would just muzzle the neighbors dog just imagine the peace and insight I might gain! Due to your reference to the Sounds of Silence I could hear Paul and Art singing your poem in my head, which worked fairly well. I assume that was not your intent, but I loved it that way in any event! Great poetry as always, Rachel!
This was so incredible
Wonderful acrostic! Like Heather, I also want to build a fort.
