Rent
Emotions are Expensive

I wish I could have shown you that girl
The one who wasn’t scared of the fall
Who knew the path, walked straight and true
claimed pieces of the world she knew she was due
-
But the brick house with the picket fence
is carved of cardboard - better knock
Watch the door cave inward and
The paint scuff off
-
That well you tossed wishes into
Pennies spent and pinned to hope
you wait to hear Abe hit the bottom,
but he never does
-
The interest is compounding
The cost is much too high
I can’t afford emotions
I’ll rent until I die
