REMEMBRANCE POEM FOR OUR PETS

When I look back upon the days we shared,

I feel the love that never lost its flame,

Each heartbeat left a memory behind,

And every soul I nurtured knew my name.

From gentle paws that followed where I walked,

To tiny wings that fluttered in the light,

From quiet fins that drifted through my thoughts,

To midnight eyes that warmed the longest night.

You came in many shapes and many forms,

Some bold and proud, some timid, small and shy,

Yet every bond was precious from the start,

A moment built that time could not deny.

You taught me how to listen without words,

To understand a language soft and true,

You lived with trust that asked for nothing more,

Than simple love I freely gave to you.

Now candles burn where photographs remain,

And though the days move on as seasons do,

I hold no anger at the world or fate,

For life was brighter all because of you.

I miss the steps that echoed through my home,

I miss the peace your presence used to bring,

But in the quiet places of my heart,

Your memory still melts the cold of spring.

I let you go with tenderness, not pain,

With gratitude for every gentle sign,

No sorrow now shall drown the love we had,

For all those years you walked your path with mine.

So rest where golden fields forever bloom,

Where skies are calm and never fade to grey,

I close my eyes and smile for what we shared,

At peace I stand and cherish yesterday.

This deserves extra recognition, Marie. I had a moment this morning when I came across a photo of my little girl (Tia Belle), who passed away four years ago last month. So much in my life changed when she left. She will always be remembered, but now I have two new little souls to look after, and they are my best buddies. "For life was brighter all because of you." For every pet that has existed.

I still remember the dogs I had growing up. Pal, Pierre, Sassy, Misty and now I have Miss Pokey and she does resemble the pokey little puppy of the children's book. Love her to pieces.

This is very beautiful. I miss two cats, but I know I will see them again.
