Silence in New York

Snow fell last night for the first time in a long while.

It seemed to absorb all sound as it gently covered the brown earth

Like a lacy white afghan draped over a sleeping child.

Earth itself became a cradle as the morning sun rose,

Nurturing under the icy crystals slumbering seeds, future

Change, green new life beneath the frozen mantle.

Everything stood still, even the frosty fog of my astonished breath.

Your imagery fits the theme of silence perfectly! Where I am, we haven't had a true snowfall in years, it seems (I'm down south).
