Remember Me

A free verse about love, loss, and the haunting power of memory

By Zakir UllahPublished 4 months ago 1 min read

When the first light of dawn touches your skin,

remember me—

not as loss,

but as breath still rising in your chest,

as warmth stitched into your veins.

When laughter drifts across empty streets,

hear me in its echo.

I am there,

woven into the sound,

carrying pieces of joy

we once held together.

Do not bind yourself in sorrow;

grief was never meant

to be a chain.

Let my memory

be your compass in the storm,

the unseen hand

guiding you forward.

But when night deepens,

when shadows grow restless

and silence presses heavy on your ribs—

you will feel me nearer.

In the hush between your breaths,

in the trembling of your bones,

in the flame of longing

you cannot put out.

For love does not vanish—

it transforms,

it lingers,

it becomes eternal.

So remember me—

in light and in darkness,

in prayer and in silence.

Remember me,

even when it hurts.

Especially when it hurts.

Because I am not gone.

I am the shadow beside you,

the star above you,

the voice within you—

forever whispering:

remember me.
