Turning left above the sea inlet near the large cemetery

Over my left shoulder, I spot two white horses

and a white carriage.

a show, a burial performance

Someone’s dream of their death march -

It will be a theatrical production,

Something for people to remember!

precious Land and Water

disappearing, drying up

Billions of gallons of Water EVERY day green up golf courses

A game of sticks and balls

created Accidental Nature Preserves

wildlife roam the fairways and roughs

Cemeteries kept Green, while

Leaching some hazmat into Water Aquifers

decorated with monuments and history

- common and unique names,

family groupings -

Land, acres of dirt for

the Dead and their Monuments -

birds and rabbits enjoy their peace

I don't understand why people still take up space in the ground in metal caskets dropped into metal encasements which don't deteroriate for 50-100 years. Sorry if my thoughts don't align with others or cause discomfort. Whoever was readying for this funeral procession I am sure loved horses and wanted to be carried to their site by the horses, or just have a ceremonial procession with the carriage and white horses. Release white doves over your grave - why? Release balloons which also pollute? No. For the purpose of a place to visit and commune with a dead loved one, a park bench, a plaque on a wall, a living tree or shrub works just fine. One hundred years later, who visits except history buffs?

Amazing piece and a great perspective for that matter

I love this, and I agree. There was time when every funeral I attended was full coffin burial.Later, I find most are choosing cremation. We're running out of room and your right. Who will visit in 100 years? Or even 25?

Powerful piece, Andrea! Very well constructed rhetoric in poetic delivery

  • I agree with you on the cremation. But I wish I can be fed to the sharks. I wanna be shark food. I wonder if that's possible hehehehehehe

You go girl. Amen. Arranging for my mothers burial had me more convinced than ever not to take up space in the ground. Well done and fervently shared

To add, cremation also releases. Burial entails the spirit of the deceased sort of being weighed down.

Yes, we are screwing the nature and it responds in heatwaves and other calamities. Great piece, Andrea!

I want to feed a tree. And my husband wants to be stuffed so he can be a hat and coat stand.
