Reliving Memories
There’s a part of me hidden deep within,
That seeks to know and see those years again.
Those winding roads that were left behind,
The days of yore both miserable and kind.
Yet, the same force that pushes me away,
Be it time or wind or some may often say.
Is the same force draws me deeper still,
To the moments, my past that make my bones chill.
Dirt roads covered with branches and weeds,
Led me to mysterious places planted story’s seeds.
Bleeding eyes I look deep behind the mists,
Of lives lived, tears shed, fantasies kissed.
Those imaginary rooms now covered by vines,
Still speak to me of youth and my favorite times.
But no matter how much I seek those images to reclaim,
Time, in its wisdom, fogs my passages to that fame.
Paint now faded, cracked chimneys fallen in decay,
Create pictures in me, contrary to what some may say.
To relive them as they were at that time is a blessed event,
With echoes of laughter, sighs of resolution, all divinely sent.
Come sit with me in this epoch of silenced memories,
And feel what I feel, see my scared treasuries.
For it is these things that I no longer can see,
That bring me the greatest joy that could ever be.
So I turn from this challenge to see them again,
Bewildered, uncertain, misunderstanding the plan.
It’s not my will that I should seek to fulfill I’m told,
But to keep within me the love shared and bestowed.
