Refracting Light

A poem

By Whitney McMarksPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

It is all of you that makes me, me.

Your unique shade of red

Fragmenting in ever so

Exquisite hues.

I drink it up and offer you mine.

We expand together.

When I collide with others,

We cause a mingling of tones

Agreeable or horrid,

always an immediate reaction,

endless perpetual movement.

There are colours that can fill you up

make you who you want to be,

push you forward,

Beware of those that are not welcome,

Those that darken and dim.

Can you see how magnificent it is?

How you are made up

Out of so much.

All the fractures, of a life well lived

moving through time and space.

Can you see all the shades that exist inside me?

A multitude of colours

Never replicated.

A heart I have touched or one that has touched mine

A scar I have been given, a dent.

I treasure them all and value them.

I treat them with care,

For these

colours

are what make me.
