RED WAS HER COLOR
Her lips were twin bows
That opened to reveal
Sparkling whites
When a smile lit up
Her honey’n’milk
Complexion.
The red rose ruled
Resplendent
In her glossy hair
Red was her color
Even the betel leaf
She chewed for its color
A drop showed
It’s presence at the edge
Of her pouting petals
Red as her passion
Before being
Whisked off by
A Red handkerchief
Red was her color
When she crashed
Into my arms
On my red lettered day
With her red files
Her cheeks turned red
As she blushed
Like a bride
In my dreams, dressed
In glorious red
A hundred shades of red
Have I seen, but
She made it better
Red was her color.
I made Red my own
As she made me hers
Red Tulips, Red roses,
Gladioli and Dahlia
Even the white Jasmine
Fragrant and delicate
I adorned with red lace
Full bouquets of white
Baby’s breath encircled
One red Anthurium
To match her grace
Red was her color.
Those were golden years
Encased in Red silk
Gulmohar trees set aflame
Summer evenings
I succumbed to her charms
Red was our passion
In each other’s arms
I gave her my heart
And a Red garnet token
Red was our color.
‘Red sky in the morning
Sailor takes warning’
Red sky at night,
Sailor’s delight!
One ominous morning
The phone rang,
Red! Red! Red!
Voices went off in my head
Color of Danger and alarm
The mirror shattered and bled
I saw her crumpled body
Red was her color.
When I came to
My world was grey
Like the smog covered day
The truck had crushed
Two souls in
One Red blow
Flashes of red were
Turning me blind
Tearing my insides
As I screamed her name
In my torment
I saw her smile
Red was her color.
