Red Letter Words

It Is Written

By Earl W. PearlPublished 2 years ago Updated 2 years ago 1 min read

I’ve read the Bible through and through, and sometimes just because

Although there’s some that never do, well I’m that one that does

Some people claim “It’s just a book, a book that humans wrote”

Those humans though were touched by God, inspiring every note

Some Bible’s tend to magnify the words of certain text

The warnings and the prophecies of what may happen next

The scriptures are like sacred seeds, those seeds, God’s written words

But seeds that fall on hardened hearts get carried off by birds

The color red just signifies the words that Jesus said

Like, “Love your neighbor as yourself,” (it’s also typed in red)

It’s there in the New Testament, red letters by the Lord

They’re written in a fashion so they cannot be ignored

“For God so loved the world,” again, red letters we all cherish

The promise Jesus made, “If we believe, we wouldn’t perish”

Those Bible’s with red letters sharing most of what He quoted

Are best for understanding what the scriptures are He noted

And even as He’s crucified, His “scarlet” legend grew

Saying, “Father please forgive them, for they know not what they do”

Despite the fact He’d reached the end, His end was not diminished

The final words that Jesus said, the red words, “It is finished”

inspirational

    Yes indeed!

  • Very well crafted; It holds up the reader until the end which is not always easy for a spiritually connected piece. Reading about you first gave it more credence. Well done!

Yes! This was an excellent poem for this topic.

  • As you know, I'm not a religious person but reading this stirred some emotions in me. Well done!

  • Well said in a rhyming poem! What a blessing that although Jesus time on earth is finished, He's eternal and is coming back one day.
