I stood out
as I meant to
The colour helped overcome my fears
Red jacket in a sea of blue suits
In a boardroom of male peers
Appointed
not promoted
Threatening, what did they expect?
Red jacket in a sea of blue suits
I used it to effect
Suit of armour
That colour red
Spoke to them all without speaking
My jacket in a sea of blue suits
Declared I was no weakling
Confidence
Oozed
I stated my case, mindful of the words that I chose
Red jacket in a sea of blue suits
Acknowledging questions that rose
Some tried to deflate
discriminate
Some tried to make it a war
Red jacket in a sea of blue suits
They simply couldn’t ignore
Surrender came
I won the day
When they lowered their eyes
Red jacket in a sea of blue suits
Acceptance comes to those who see change and
grows in those who are wise
Transitions
My life’s story
Another glass ceiling shattered
Red jacket in a sea of blue suits
It did it for me and the sisterhood
Wearing my favourite red jacket
