Red is for the way I love you.
We've come a long way.

my mom likes red flowers
says it gives her power
the power to say that she has an impact
that she isn’t just part of a legacy
but creates a legacy
A legacy in this mind
Is something that we are
Good and royal to
The land, the world we on
So much has taken the identity of my mum
That when she sees
Wears red
She sees power
when all it is
Blood that shimmers
In the sea of capitalism
so here we are
Getting nose deep
In the scent trails
Of RED
Red does not smell sickly
Red does not signify the spiritual rot
Red does not feel like it doesn’t belong.
Red doesn’t understand that they cannot belong as they are.
Red red red
Power
Earned and unearned
Red
Means blood to me.
Red means pain to me.
Red means greed to me
Red is
Red.
Red colors the way
I thought I could see the light.
Red is in what I produce
Red is what clings.
Red is the way I see the dead.
When she sees RED
she thinks POWER
she thinks POWER
is a man by herside
to protect the home
When I think of POWER
i think of all of us
feel it in our bones
that we are never alone
so i look at her
and i ask her
but haven't the men
we loved
left us all alone
and in their absence
have we not grown wider
and taller than what we thought was possible?
she tells me
she is powerful now
because of us
she sees our strength
she sees our contributions
as her own
she sees a longer legacy
and future than she thought possible
so yes, my mother wears red
she tells us it's a lucky color
she sees how red i get
when i kiss my partner
she sees how in that blush
how alive i truly am now
she sees me smile
she sees the shadows in my eyes disappear
and she swears red is a lucky color
and she tells me over and over again
how lucky i am to find love
and even as i see red as all those we've lost
to wars pillaged on our homes near and abroad
she sees red as me finding someone
who makes me fight for a world
that is a bold yellow sunflower.
i love you in red
she tells me
i love you in red
as she hands me a red envelope
and tells me now that i'm married now
it's my turn now
i see you
she tells me
i love you
she tells me
i do not fear anymore
she shows me
and maybe
just maybe
i can understand why she likes the color RED.
happy mother's day
i see you too.
