Red Face White
For The Sonnet of Shadows Challenge - Yes, it's still a sonnet. Don't even argue. Content Warning.
Times spent
shrouded -
shrouded
yes in darkness
~
Such a
melodramatic
word to use
~
as I say
"fuck you"
to the sun's brightness
~
appropriate
but not what I'd choose
~
Cloaked,
suffocated -
even
fucking drowning
~
Yes drowning
in the quiet-
forgotten
~
Thinking and not thinking
is so draining
~
Complaining, of course,
I am downtrodden
~
Hypocrisy, deception -
I excel
~
I want but don't want
your fucking sympathy
~
My sins and faults
I know too damn fucking well
~
Don't act self-indulgent
with empathy
~
I'll pull myself out
and laugh hard in spite
~
And say things that will
drain your red face white
*
Thanks for reading!
Author's Notes: Yes, it's a sonnet. Yes, it really is. Yes, every line has 10 syllables and there are 14 "lines".
Don'e even argue with me on this one.

The anger, exhaustion, and defiance all come through so vividly. And I love the tongue-in-cheek author’s note at the end; it made me smile after the storm of emotion.
Well-wrought! They did give you latitude in the guidelines! Maybe this is a new form? A consonnet? (Like a hillbilly swears the oath--"consarnit!" Not your dialect, I know, but I'm trying to give you an out here...)
I think you may have just created a new version of sonnet. You gotta come up with a name for it!
No arguments here, well done!
Laughed out loud at Matthew’s response, but hey, you asked for it, twice! Pretty sure this is the angriest, snarlingest, get the hell out of my face sonnet I’ve ever had the privilege to read and reflect upon. Is this simply Paul as provocateur or are you mad as hell and aren’t going to take it anymore?
This poem is more of a commentary on living a life that one is just not sure. Good job.
Hey Paul I don’t think this is a sonnet 😉
very cleverly done sonnet
