Red paint
Red blood
Red skin.
We paint red on our faces,
For it means vengeance to your enemy.
We dance in red beaded shoes,
Telling our stories through celebration
We wear red flowers
To mourn for those taken from us.
We wear red dresses
To let others know of our plight.
We wear red for those who were taken,
From our homes,
Our communities,
Our lives.
We sing our songs
Until our voices are red and raw,
Demanding towards all to hear us.
We are still here!
We want our family back!
We wear red because we are red.
Red blood,
Red skin,
Red hearts.
We wear red handprints,
So we can demand justice.
We wear red.
Because we are seeing red.
