I thought I was losing myself.
Ironically, I only needed to find a certain part
When I began losing the people who were my foundation.
I never really lost myself,
Or them.
And in full retrospect, they weren’t my foundation,
But they truly helped me build it.
I just had to figure out how to build on my own
Without their constant instruction along the way.
I realized, for so long, I wasn’t building for me,
But I was copying them instead.
I finally understood it.
I couldn’t mimic how they were building for themselves
Because I was not them.
They were building a village
To show me my roots.
I am building an empire
To show them my growth.
