Ramblings part 12

Rambling on depression

I've always hated how we portray depression

As some massive being standing over us

More often than not though it's so much smaller

Almost invisible even to those afflicted

~

A small little thing benign looking if you see

But what it whispers is far from benign

It's the voice that says something isn't good enough

To delete and erase anything you've done

~

"No one wants to see this. You've gone quite mad."

It whispers into the cracks and crevices of your mind

"No one cares what you've done. No one at all."

Slowly filling your mind with little negative thoughts

~

Soon that's all that is left

Swimming in your mind

A sea of negative thoughts

And you feel all alone

~

Tossed to the ocean

No life raft in sight

The little demon clouds your sight

So that you see no help at all

~

Left thoroughly thrashed and crushed

Inside your own mind

Battling a creature that your aren't even sure is real

With thoughts you can't properly define

~

"Be happy. There's no need to be sad."

"The sun is shining. Children are laughing."

"Why can't you just be glad?"

Your friends and your family ask

~

You want to tell them

There's a tiny thing in my ear

It whispers that all you tell are lies

Nothing but falsehoods

~

Standing up to it and telling it to go

Is only the first step

On a long long road

You'll have to tell it numerous times

To pack its bags and go away

~

If you're reading this now and the demon is whispering to you

Know that I can see it too

It will never fully disappear

But that doesn't mean that it won't be okay

~

The hands you see reaching out

Aren't illusions they are real

There are people that understand

And they want to help you too
