I had a dream…
A twisted nightmare
A nightmare where the doctor told us
Our son was no more
A scene, once serene with dreams
Had screams
Standing in a downpour
Fully drenched in emotions
You screamed to the skies for answers
My hand slipped from yours
And everything changed us
Me pleading for an understanding
You heavy from the regret drowning you
Us both unable to stop the spinning
I tried to cover you from the storm
I tried so hard to get back to your touch
But, my legs were swept from under me
Winds anchored me down on my knees
And I lost my voice trying to reach you
The sun vanished
Hopelessness enclosed us
No more control in sight
We watched what we built be carried away
And all we had left was time
Time to burst all on our own
Bury ourselves and pray for rebirth
We never in life felt so weak
So crippled from expectations
Every step felt impenetrable
Veering too far away to reconnect
Hoping that somehow this storm passes
Somehow I can find the right words
Somehow I can get back to you
Somehow we can try again
Somehow we can pick up where we let go
Boom…
Thunder crashes…
I violently wake from this nightmare,
And woke you
Kissed your cheek
Rubbed your belly
And said I’m sorry…
Thankful that I found my way back to you through this storm
And counted down the days until we finally can see our rainbow…
