Rain

Please don't go away

The song said to "go away"

come again another day

but, I implore you, please stay

give the clouds a chance to play.

/

I smell the water as it soaks into

the freshly-stained porch

where I am perched just behind

in the safety of indoors.

/

You cut through heavy, hot, and humid air,

turning the grass and trees a brilliant green

as they drink freely through their leaves

and swallow up life from soil.

/

My natural meditator, trance-maker, hypnotist,

as you gently fall,

pitter-pattering over the cardinal's call

a relaxing, repetitive song you sing,

named life-giving, essential, rain.
