Rain on the Glass
Finding happiness in the ordinary.

Rain softly patters against the glass,
The moon rises higher and higher;
It drips below onto the brass
As we muse on the future we desire.
-=-
Nestled into the window nook,
Two halves of a whole, entwined.
You’d dozed off reading your favourite book;
I held you as this memory was defined.
-=-
The sun shone bright, but the winds stayed chilly;
You took my hand as we stared at the lily’s.
We laced our fingers, you squeezed mine tight,
I marvelled at how elegant you looked in the light.
-=-
Leaves of gold and red and brown
Eased through the air to rest on the ground.
We strolled through the woods, crunch underfoot;
Clusters of bluebells skirted the roots.
-=-
Sometimes we spoke of dear post-its we scrawled,
Sometimes we talked of music we recalled,
Sometimes we laughed at the way our cats sprawled,
And sometimes we spoke of nothing at all.
-=-
Daylight turned to amber sunset,
We returned home to escape the crisp air.
Greeted with a shower to wash off the sweat
And two black cats asleep on a chair.
-=-
The doorbell rings, heralding our food,
I dish up while you grab us some booze.
We sit down and cheers our drinks,
Whilst being serenaded by Lenny Kravitz.
-=-
We polish our food in between
Singing and dancing like we’re eighteen.
You laugh and I smile whilst you mime the drums;
I’m so proud of how far you’ve come.
-=-
We settled down as the music faded,
Drifted to the window nook to accompany the rain.
You read your book whilst I ruminated;
I would never get so lucky again.
-=-
Eventually you fell asleep in my arms,
Gently entrancing me with your charms.
We were eventually joined by two curious cats,
As the rain softly pattered against the glass.
