Queer History, Part 19

*

After I stopped going to pride parades,

after Macklemore,

after Elton, Ellen, Rosie,

after GLSEN and PFLAG

after Coors, and Hilfiger and Pennys,

after safe space and the Out 100

after gay marriage billboards

after It Gets Better

*

after my anger softened under the pestle of resignation,

Congressmen and equality stickers marched

into my living room, came

for my love

*

- unruly, slopfaced, unsanitary -

*

demanded

Where's. your. fairytale.

Your. hers. and. hers.

Come out from under our thumbs, now.

Shake loose your skirts.

Smile for us, pretty.

Smile pretty for us.
