Pursuit of Happiness
Trying to catch what is just out of reach
Happiness is around somewhere
Probably hanging in my blind spot
Because all I see ahead
Is monotony and a time clock
And behind me
Is a lost kid swallowed by darkness
Equipped with cigarettes, a couple joints, a 40
And a dream thats far fetched
'Bout to pass out drunk on a park bench
My elusive friend taunts me
Just as I'm about to catch it
It progresses
Moving swiftly and promptly
We all chase it because we're supposed to
But lets face it
Its something I'll only get close to
So if you find happiness
Tell it to find me
So I can have some peace of mind
And put the past behind me.

Amazing work! I really like the raw honesty.
Thank you for this and I agree with @Phyllis Bowman, which makes me think, once I "become successful," will I finally find happiness for myself or will happiness also forever elude me...
Thank you for this poem! Words can cut like a knife or be medicine for the soul! This is medicine!
