Purple Power Ranger Perspective

Our uniforms tell you why.

We are cogs turning in a life-saving machine,

Some perceived as big, others little.

Don’t be fooled—

We are all essential,

And each have potential

To help the country survive,

Eventually thrive.

I’m an Outpatients Housekeeper,

Housekeepers call themselves Purple Power Rangers

Our uniforms tell you why.

Here are more uniform inspired names:

Sisters: The Navy

Nurses: Deep Sea Divers

HCAs: Storm Troopers

Infection Control: Shepherds Warning

Cleaners: Coral Reefs

TNAs: Guardian Angels

Assistant Practitioners: Holy Wine

Receptionists: Diamonds

Doctors and Secretaries: Motley Crew

Physios, OTs, Porters: Foresters

Paramedics: Evergreen Lighters

Matrons, Security, Procurement, Serco:

Dark Knights

Linen: Spring Skies

Those I saw in yellow: Sun Rays

I’m aware I’m not the only cog

In this never ending machine.

It would be mean not to acknowledge

The bus drivers that get me to work.

Delivery drivers that bring anything I need,

Supermarket and shop workers,

Without them our mouths would be impossible to feed.

One of which is my mother

Who listens to people’s complaints

With the patience of a Saint.

Then there are the police

Who deal with being sworn and spat at,

They do not want to ruin your fun,

Police only strive to keep us safe as one.

The teachers that look after my niece,

Who always comes home in one piece.

The constant stop and start

Together, then apart.

HMRC, who were busy to the max,

Did all that they could to sort out my tax.

Now that’s out of the way

I do not have to worry about my pay!

My sister in law works for DWP

In the benefits sector,

A challenging job that can be,

Problem solving is key.

Like most people, I love to eat,

Takeaways have been a tasty treat!

Now I’m sure you’re wondering what I do,

So I’ll tell you and in my role I am new:

Housekeepers or Purple Power Rangers

Undertake cleaning of rooms and equipment,

Deep cleaning of trollies is once a week,

Those aren’t the only things to implement:

Down we will go for kitchen supplies

After detouring for PPE,

Even sometimes to SSD.

Any deliveries we have to unpack

Then flat-pack the cardboard,

Being careful of our backs.

We’ll put everything away,

Which might get used in the day.

There is a system called PowerGate

On which Purple Power Rangers order

So when there is a chance stock might get low,

We can help our supplies to grow.

We’re designed to meet demands,

By running errands

Around the hospital

We take pressure off clinical staff,

And we are able to have a laugh.

We’ll help anyone who is lost,

No matter what time it will cost.

It’s a job I do enjoy,

Keeping me physically fit,

And that purple, I’m working it!

I’m so sorry if there are any key workers

I have missed out,

Because each and every one of you

Deserve a massive shout!

You all give a little hope,

In a pandemic filled with doubt.

Without you we couldn’t cope.
