Purple

My name is Kat Magill. I am a poet out of Los Angeles. I am excited to share this work with you.

This poem was inspired by my daughter’s response to the question, “what do you want to be when you grow up?” She said, “the color purple.” At first I laughed but quickly realized how liberated her answer was. She was not confined to the belief that she must fit inside any pre-made box. Instead she could turn into the very color that brought her joy and share that happiness with the world. Purple reminds me to never lose the resilience and imagination I had to dream bigger and change the world while doing so.
