Puppet Show
Reflections on the politicization of religion
When your whole life is a puppet show
Full of drama, lies, and laughter
It may never occur to you
To filter saccharine from sugar
Empty smiles in the front row pews
Saying prayers for a happy never after
Security blankets meant to thaw cold hearts
Brought to you by a sponsored pastor
Trading pills for a bite of the flesh
Selling guilt for the taste of blood
Love and hate as concepts start to intermesh
A sinking ship desperate for counter-flood
Ruthless shepherds seek to thin their herd
Endless death maintains the status quo
Offerings to satisfy those most absurd
Bones as props in your puppet show
Echo chambers under worn out tiles
Scripted warnings taken from false kings
Distracted whispers flutter through the aisles
Puppets never learn to cut their strings
About the Creator
vibrant ghost
I’m a teacher who is just trying to figure out how to make sense of the world around me.
I usually write about social issues with a focus on disability and social justice.
