Protected By God's Love

I have been in the darkest pits of life,

Still able to see the beauty of the sun.

I have seen the ugliest corners of the human soul,

Still, I believe in the overall kindness of mankind.

I have hope where all seems hopelessness,

I have faith when there seems to be none.

The only thing that keeps me from losing the core of who I am is that I am protected by God's love.

There have been times I should have been dead,

Took risks that were not needed,

I should have turned up in the bottom of a river somewhere,

Should have been found with trash as part of my final resting place.

Instead, I have been watched over throughout my life,

Have been encased with the care that only a parent can give,

I have been protected by God's love.

There have been hurdles throughout my life,

Still, I have been pushed not to give up.

There has been time I felt all alone surrounded by everyone,

Unseen arms gathered me in a loving embrace.

No matter how I feel,

No matter what I have done,

No matter where I am,

I know I am not alone.

I am protected by God's love.

That's all I need to know.
