Protect You

The Best I Can

By Vicious AvaricePublished 2 years ago 1 min read

I want to protect you from all this world’s pains, but I can't even cover you in the smallest of rains.

I can hold you, but when the sun sets I can't be your eyes as darkness takes the skies.

I can be there when you shake with fear, but I can't take your thoughts, only wipe your tears.

I can warn you when you give yourself to bad souls, but I can't stop you from trusting, only seek to console.

I can motivate you to chase your dreams, but I can't help you meet them, only help you to sleep.

I can hold your hand as time withers your body, but I can't cure you, only bring you soup.

I can't do anything when the reaper claims me, and leaves you alone with your memories.

But when time takes everything and leaves you nothing…

You'll always have the part of me that tried to protect you.
