this i promise you

By josh napperPublished about a year ago 3 min read

Intro: Once upon a time I made her a promise and I ain't gonna let her down. Lord knows she has faced way way too many false promises and wannabes. I know I am super fricken far away from being perfect but for her god knows I’m gonna show her how a real man is. He gets up and tries to start her day off good, then he goes to work so he can provide for the love of his life, no matter how pissed off the boss lady makes him feel, and then he picks up some flowers and chocolate on the way home when she texts him she’s had a bad day.

Verse 1: Okie dokie let me take a second or two to say that I have made so many Fricken promises towards my angel but they all end up being the same thing. I promise my angel, my queen, my girl, my whole world that my smart pants will show her what a real man looks like and what a real man does. Heck some nights she questions if there are even actual real men out there. I know there are so many false prophets cuz I saw her tears fall, heck I made her wipe away one or two but at least I aint trying to prove to everyone else and especially myself that I am a god. I’m just me, a young man trying to show the one he’ll take a bullet for that there are real men around.

Verse 2: Each action that I do and each word that comes out of my mouth is gonna be viewed under a microscope with both of her eyes but that only means I gotta be better than the rest. But here's the catch: she already deserves the best, the best of this young man and the best in the whole world, so I’m gonna find a way to be the best one way or another. So demons of her nightmares come out to play and say goodbye to your loved ones cuz as soon as I learn of your attack I’m picking up my sword and my shield and I’m heading straight to the front lines to say hi. Sure I’m white now but after that fight I’ll be covered in your blood. Call it the impossible, label me the greatest underdog, say ya right, I’ll just keep my mouth shut until I laugh and ask you if you have any thoughts on my success. I ain't gonna let my girl down, too many- her blood or her friends- have already made that mistake. I’m a man that keeps his promises especially to the one that made me who I am today.

Verse 3: So from the bottom of my heart mam, I just wanted to say thank you and i'll repay everything you have done and will do for me by keeping the simple promise. The simplest of promises. I’ll not be the rest of the guys that you have ever faced, I will be a real man. I’ll not be the rest of the guys that you have ever faced, I will be a real man. Call it the impossible, label me the greatest underdog, say ya right, I’ll just keep my mouth shut until I laugh and ask you if you have any thoughts on my success. She already deserves the best, the best of this young man and the best in the whole world, so I’m gonna find a way to be the best one way or another. So demons of her nightmares come out to play and say goodbye to your loved ones cuz as soon as I learn of your attack I’m picking up my sword and my shield and I’m heading straight to the front lines to say hi.
