Childhood trauma that stays.. My mum slipped in the snow while carrying me

Prisoner of The Ice January 10th, 2025

I sit by the window, watching the frost,

A world frozen still, motionless, lost.

The snow lies heavy, a blanket too deep,

While fear grips my chest, refusing to sleep.

The ice is a jailer, its grip cold and tight,

It whispers of danger in pale, brittle light.

Paths glisten like traps, each step a snare,

I’m tethered to safety, too frozen to dare.

Beyond my warm haven, the world shivers on,

Each crystal a warning of what could go wrong.

I long for the thaw, the drip and the flow,

For freedom to walk where now I can’t go.

The sun feels distant, but still I hold on,

Dreaming of puddles where ice has withdrawn.

For now, I’ll remain, a prisoner of frost,

Until winter’s chains are finally lost.

NOTE I wrote this poem due to my real fear of snow and ice,

after a traumatic event when I was a child in my mother’s arms.

Good work and you know that this is a phobia and people do get over phobias. You must try small steps and here is a first step just go out on your porch or stoop and just smell the air and take your finger and touch the snow. This is kind of like immersion therapy. When you are ready you will be maybe ready to take a step abet slowly and take a short walk around the block. This is only a suggestion.
