Colour is Pride

Hide in plain sight, camouflage, blend in.

Don’t even think it, they say its a sin.

Reflect what’s expected, mirror what you’re told.

Conform, dovetail, don’t break the mould.

Remain in the darkness, stay away from the light.

Don’t draw attention, maintain the fight.

No one to turn to, few you can trust.

Fear of exposure, secrecy a must.

Ignorance, hatred, both take their toll.

Bury those feelings, fill in the hole.

Develop sharp edges, cut into, broken off.

What doesn’t break you, will make you tough.

Resistance is futile, forbidden embrace.

Welcome acceptance, sun on your face.

Showing your truth, removing the mask.

No longer empty, beautiful cast.

Transparent foolishness, eyes see right through.

Bring down the shutters, dampen your hue.

Crystal clear clarity, clouded opaque.

Losing identity, becoming a fake.

No longer happy, deserving of more.

Change is coming, joining the war.

Disguard the label, tear off the tag.

Raise the striped banner, fly the bright flag.

Pull up the shutters, push back the door.

Acknowledge the spectrum, chromatic lore.

Out in the open, stand tall, take pride.

Nothing to fear now, no need to hide.

Shine in the light, embrace who you are.

Explosion of colour, to be seen from afar.
