The Strokes that Made Her

Stand tall, speak confidently with your eyes,

Let your hair rest over just one shoulder,

And don’t forget to smile.

Let your voice be gentle, inviting, even motherly;

Do not become the loudest voice in the room,

And most of all, keep the peace.

Ah, that blouse does not fit your physique, my dear.

Try one that conceals the weight you gained,

And don’t eat too much tonight.

Here, wear this. It will look far more natural,

And help warm your ghostly complexion;

It is all in the details.

You will adjust with more practice walking;

Heels are like the balancing act of life.

Now, make each stride look simple.

Glide as though your feet never grace the ground;

They should be in awe of you while you pass,

But don’t let them see you run.
